GRAPHITE GASKET CONSTRUCTION
Graphite-style cylinder head gaskets can be particularly suitable for older engines where the cylinder head or engine block mating surfaces may have minor imperfections.
 
Unlike some metal gasket designs, graphite gaskets can offer greater conformity to small surface irregularities. However, the cylinder head and block must still be checked for flatness and correct surface condition before installation.
